Game 4 of the SCS MABL Championship Series was a rematch of the starters for Game 1. Duke Dell took the mound for the Red Sox and Eric Magiera toed the rubber for the Orioles. In the top of the first the Sox managed a single but Magiera struckout the next two batters to halt any sort of Sox rally. The bottom of the first saw Dell get the Orioles in order. With one out in the top of the second Bo Ford took the first pitch he saw over the left-center field wall for the first run of the game. The Sox managed two more hits in the inning but failed to tack on more runs. In the bottom of the second the Orioles loaded the bases with no out but Dell was able to get out of the jam allowing a single run by inducing a double play and a ground out. In the third each team put a couple runners on base but neither team was able to score. However in the fourth things got interesting. In the top half Ford leadoff with a single and went to third on a wild pitch and a ground out. Mike Dawson then took a slider over the fence for a two-run homer to give the Red Sox a 3-1 lead. The lead however would not last long. In the bottom of the fourth the Orioles loaded the bases with no outs on a walk, HBP and an error on the pitcher. Surratt then walked in a run and the Monley hit a bullet to first that CJ Sulek snared on one hop and was able to force the runner at home from his knees. After a pop out for the second the it looked as though the Sox might get out of the inning with minimal damage but a throwing error brought in two more runs. The Sox then intentionally walked Wilson to load the bases bringing up Bernazard. With two strikes Bernazard took a high fastball to the wall in right for a bases clearing double. Thurman then single Bernazard home to give the Orioles a seven run inning and an 8-3 lead. Angelo Pizzo relieved Dell for the final out of the fourth. In the fifth the Sox managed a couple hits but couldn’t cut the lead at all. The Orioles were also held off the board in the fifth. In the sixth though the Sox cut into the Orioles lead. Ford stayed hot with a leadoff double followed by singles from Dawley, Dawson and Girodat to cut the lead to 8-5. The Sox looked to score more but the Orioles brought Thurman in relief and he got the next two guys on strickouts and after a walk to Sulek ended the inning with a popup. The Orioles threatened in the bottom of the sixth getting a walk and a hit batter but were unable to score. In the seventh Caldwell lead off with a single for the Sox but after a strikeout it looked like the Orioles might be able to close things out. The Sox next batter also struckout but the ball got by the catcher and the Sox had two on with one out. Then the Orioles pitcher got wild walking the next two batters to make the score 8-6. Whitbeck then came in relief for the Orioles. Hitting in Dawson’s spot, who was pinch ran for in the sixth, CJ Sulek hit a possible double play ball to short but the toss to second pulled the second basemen off the bag and instead of at least two outs the bases were still loaded and another run had scored. Girodat then singled for the third time in the game for another run to tie the game. With the bases still loaded Vandevelde hit a grounder to third who threw home but a hard slide by Dawley caused the catcher to drop the ball giving the Red Sox the lead. The Sox then scored two more on a hit batter by Jones and a walk to Ryan Sulek. In all the Sox scored six runs on only two hits but had three walks, a hit batter and were helped by two Orioles errors. In the bottom of the seventh Jon Van Son came in to close things out. Van Son struck out the first batter and then after a nice sliding grab of a grounder by Ryan Sulek, Van Son finished the game and the season with a strikeout. For the game Ford lead the way for the Sox with three hits, including a homer and a double. Girdoat also had three hits for the Sox. Dawson, homer and single, Dobson and Dawley each had two hits. Pizzo got the win in relief with 2 1/3 scoreless innings and Van Son finished with the save. For the Orioles Wilson and Bernazard each had a double and a walk and Brown walked three times. It was an exciting close series for both teams. Congratulations to the Orioles on a fine season and a great playoff run. The Red Sox finished the year going 34-2. |

The Orioles should've won this series, they didn't manage their pitching staff. Whitbeck should've started games 1 & 4. Congrats to pisko for buying a championship. |

Losers always says should have.
What did Pisko buy? He paid for the trophy? You are a complete idiot. Explain the logic behind thinking a team that lost 2 games all season should have been beat by a team that wasnt quite as good? Dont get me wrong I think the Orioles are and were the 2nd best team in the league. Let me repeat, 2nd best. Play this series over and over. Red Sox win just about every time. I can GUARANTEE that. |
